In Los Angeles the first question about any evening is where it is. Ours is Downtown: Florentín Rooftop Bar, 617 South Spring Street, eighth floor, in the Historic Core. It has been our only Los Angeles room since the first evening on August 26.
We host these evenings, so this is a guide to one room and not to the city's calendar. What has happened in that room so far is in Los Angeles so far.
One room from the start
New York took us five rooms to find one. Los Angeles started with one and has kept it: both evenings so far and every date ahead are on the same rooftop. In a city this spread out, that is worth something. You work out the drive and the parking once.
Inside Tech Week
LA Tech Week runs from October 12 to 18, and our Thursday, October 15, lands in the middle of it. A week like that rewards choosing. Go to fewer evenings than you'd like, and make one of them a room where you have to say out loud what you need. At ours that happens in the first hour, at a table, before anyone goes on stage. Five founders on the first night
On August 26, our first evening here, all five seats on stage were taken:
- SONARCH, pre-seed: software that tells architecture and construction firms what the building rules allow on a site.
- Zushki, pre-seed: one shop for the everyday supplies caregivers buy.
- Flavr, pre-seed: a dating app that matches people on food.
- Bridge Solutions, growth stage: a private credit fund that lends against vehicles.
- ZOUNDSLIKE, on the record by name, with no profile in our base yet.

The rest of our Los Angeles base
Seven Los Angeles companies are in our startup base. Besides SONARCH, Zushki and Flavr, there are four that haven't pitched here: Koolcap, growth stage, a baseball cap with a small fan in it; Visbl, seed, a booking site for mortgages; Boomerangme, seed, loyalty software that agencies resell to small businesses; and Instamor, seed, a dating app built on short video. Two of the seven are dating apps.
Two dates
The November date is the night before Thanksgiving, when crossing Los Angeles takes longer than usual. It suits people who are staying in town.
