Who pitched and when: the San Jose record on ascentvalley.com as of Oct 6, 2026. Company descriptions from their own applications to our startup base.

San Jose is the most populous city in the Bay Area, and a lot of the startup calendar is at the other end of the train line. When we counted on September 23, San Francisco's Tech Week listed 1,713 events for October 5 to 11. From San Jose that's about an hour each way on the express, and longer on a local. This guide is about the south end of the line.

We've hosted four evenings in San Jose since June, and six companies have pitched at them. The record so far, evening by evening. Our stake, up front: the two dates at the end of this guide are ours.

What shapes the room here

Large companies, close by. Cisco, Adobe, eBay, PayPal and Zoom are headquartered in San Jose, and Adobe and Zoom are downtown. A lot of people here build products at one of them by day. Some are deciding whether to start their own.

Hardware next to software. The city's reputation is hardware: networking, chips, storage. None of the six companies that have pitched at our San Jose evenings builds hardware. If you do, we'd like to meet you.

A university downtown. San José State's main campus is downtown, with about 33,000 students. You don't need a company to come to an evening.

Who has pitched here

Six companies so far, on two evenings. Descriptions are from their own applications:

  • July 29. argile, a world model for buildings. BUILI, which turns 2D floor plans into lightweight 3D models and ties field photos and measurements to them. Dunback Meadow, a marketplace where people's AI agents buy from other agents. California Miramar University, a tech and business school based in downtown San Jose.
  • August 26. Grave Angels, an on-demand grave-care app. SeatDrop, a delivery platform that works only inside a sports stadium.

Two of the six, argile and BUILI, are construction AI, and they pitched on the same night. If you build for the built world, you'll be in familiar company at a San Jose table.

Two more San Jose companies are in our startup base: API Now, a semantic execution engine for building consistent APIs, and Topaas.AI, a codebase intelligence layer for AI agents.

How to plug in

  • Pick one room and keep coming back. Every San Jose evening of ours since July has been on the last Wednesday of the month, and the next two are as well. A recurring evening lets you pick a conversation up where it stopped.
  • Come with one ask. The first hour is at a table on a topic the city voted for. Vote for the problem you actually have. How the evening runs, hour by hour.
  • If you have a job or a degree to finish and are thinking about starting, use the fourth ask: "I have an idea, I want your honest take." Founders and operators at the table will tell you what they'd need to see.
  • If you invest, San Jose companies go into the weekly digest for investors approved on application, filtered to stage, sector and geography.
  • If you're mid-Peninsula, we're also in Palo Alto on Wednesday, November 4, at 5:00 PM, at JOE & THE JUICE.

Dates for the fall

Guildhouse is downtown, at 420 South First Street. The tables start at 7. November 25 is the evening before Thanksgiving, so if you'll be travelling that week, come on October 28.
